Slingy and projectiles
|
The most important task this week was the sprite for an enemy called Slingy, it’s a character that is supposed to come up from the bottom of the screen and shoot at the player with a slingshot. All of the assets were made in Adobe Photoshop CC 2017.
The enemy characters in this game are supposed to have their weapons be a part of themselves to convey a feeling of that they are the weapon, that the person is not the important thing, this is because the player character is having nightmares about going to school and that makes the player character more afraid of the action or the idea of what they might do than the actual person.
I had trouble making the slingshot since it’s supposed to be attached to the character. It made it look he was doing a timeout pose of some kind and did not look like he was pulling the string of a slingshot to shoot the player. This is something that I have to refine in the future to make sure that this is conveyed in a good and proper manner and to refine the look a bit more.
Here is a picture of the sprite:
And here is a picture of the concept for him, they first one was the one we went with:
Another thing that I worked on was the projectile sprites and the power up sprite, or more like ideas of what the projectiles and the power up could look like. The projectiles for the enemies were a bit hard to come up with, some questions in my head was if we wanted to make them real, like rocks or paper balls, or make them more dreamlike, like cold fire or some kind of energy. The players projectiles and the power up was easier to come up with since I established early on that we wanted them to be warm and have a feeling of comfort to them, and the same goes for the power up.
Here is the concept/ideas of some of the bullets:
