The final assignment

Hello people!

So the final assignment is almost over. This has been an intense five weeks for me and my group.

This course has been highly educational, because today, I know how to design a game.

This assignment is about designing a game, using a couple of tools. These tools are:

  • Concept Document
  • Pitch
  • Paper Prototype
  • Individual project report
  • One Page Design

The Concept Document:

This is where you compile everything you have done when designing the game. The Concept Document is for the group only, the group who is going to turn it into a playable digital version. This is everything from the core mechanics, to target audience and concept art. Simply put, the Concept Document should contain everything there is to know about the game and market potential.

The Pitch:

The Pitch is for the investors. The Pitch exists because you want investors to give you money so you can make the game. The Pitch is supposed to give the investors something to be interested about. It should contain pictures, and short punchy lines about the game.

The Paper Prototype:

The paper prototype should simulate what the PC version of the game should look like. It is a paper prototype, so it is supposed to be played without any digital means. It is vital that the paper prototype simulates the same feelings as the PC version is going to do. For example like stress. If stress is a vital part of your PC version, like tetris for example, it is important that the player playing the paper prototype feels the stress part like he or she would if playing the PC version.

Here is a picture of our paper prototype.

Individual project report:

This is the one part of the assignment that you have to do indivudally. It is supposed to be educational for future people doing this assignment, and  interesting for people who wants to read how my group did during the assignment. It is much about what we did wrong, what we did right, and what I think we did to improve the progress of the assignment. It contains an introduction, methodology, results, analysis and a summary. My report finished at 15 pages, with 4100 words.

One Page Design:

The One Page Design were a group assignment, but I took it upon myself to do it alone. As Lead Art, which is my role in the group, I felt that by making the One Page Design all alone, I could explain with pictures how I wanted the player to feel playing our game, which is a colorful, make-you-feel-happy kind of game.

Here is a picture of our One Page Design!

I have learned alot from this final assignment. I have learned how the process go from the first idea of a game, to actually beginning to make the game, digitally. That part is the next assignment in our next course in Game Design, in 10 weeks. In 10 weeks were are supposed to pick one of these assignments, and actually make it a fully playable game.’

On monday we start our new course. This course is dividing the class  in two groups. One course is game programming, and the other is 2d-computer graphics.

I am so excited to start this course, and it is going to be really fun.

Stay tuned for pictures and the progress for me as an artist, because now it all begins!

Much love,

Adam
