3D Week 7 – Anatomically Correct is the Best Type of Correct

Greetings!

This week we went through anatomy and looked at what we knew and what we need to improve when it comes to our own knowledge of anatomy. We brought some drawings of creatures we had and discussed their anatomy in groups of four.

This was a bit hard for me seeing as when I went back looking for images I had made including creatures I realized I have barely made any! And If I have then they either have a bunch of armor or other sort of clothing making it a bit hard to notice. But I’ll just bombard you with some images now and then go through what I need to improve and how to do so.

Here are some, found some more when looking closer now that I did not bring for this weeks lesson. Many of these I had forgotten I made! And many are not even done. The newest is in the top left and the oldest in the bottom right, and I guess it shows.

Like I said it is extremely hard to see the anatomy justly because I often have something that covers it up.

I have also tried different styles over the years and that in turn alters the use of the anatomy. I mean, the oldest image here is over 4 years old.

So the feedback I got from my colleagues was more in the form of “draw more naked peeps”, or in that direction at least. To which I wholeheartedly agree, I need to practice anatomy more. And It’s a real shame that I can’t find the scrap drawings I used to have in which I drew hands and feet and legs and such so I could get a good look at what I need to improve. But I do know that there are areas of the body that I can draw rather well and know the flow of, and that is the neck as well as the head. That is something I’ve practiced over the years. The areas that I mainly need to improve is probably pelvis and legs, as well as shoulders and arms as I am not as familiar and need to go deeper into how they are constructed.

How do I plan to fill these gaps and improve over the next few months then? Read more, look at images and draw out loose concepts of how everything is connected. As well as begin sculpting in Zbrush once again as I used to, and in there focus on shoulders and arms. I feel that is what I need, and since I enjoy structure and a nice schedule I believe I will crate one for myself and really push myself to improve even though there might be much to do at times. But that what needs to be done.

Now on to the 3D modeling of the character from last week and my troubles with that ordeal…

Assignment 3 – Troubles

So… I’ve had a bit too much of work this week and did not plan it that very well. And it showed now this Sunday as I’m writing this since I’ve have done nothing but sit and try to tie up all loose ends from this week. Something that I need to do better next week, I also missed the lesson we had on Wednesday and got even more behind. But I should be fine, I like to create edge flow and I am rather quick at it as well so next week I should spend some more time than initially planned to finish this character and move over to the unwrapping and texturing.

As showed I have not gotten far, and that pains me, but next week it should all go smoothly. My main concern is the vest and how to implement it, and if I should connect it to the body somehow or keep it separate.

But that is all I have to say about that.

Have a good one!
