Blog week 6 -Fixing level music
|
The time has come! This is officially the last blogpost for the ”Space Giraffa” project. It’s been a very educating experience, with a lot of up and downs, which I’m happy to have been a part of. So what have I done this final week? Honestly mostly polishing. We artist tried to make sure that pretty much all the art needed were done last week so the programmers simply could implement everything this week. I guess if there’s anything I can mention that I have worked with this week, it’s the level music. There was only one problem. Our level was longer then the music we had. We had planned to have the ”Never lose hope” song play at the beginning of the level, and then fade and switch to ”My Anger (Official Preview) at the boss stage, but instead ”Never lose hope” ended up playing twice with an awkward pause in between. I wanted to make it loop, but the construction of the song didn’t really fit for that. The level is around 4 minutes long until the boss fight starts, while ”Never lose hope” is only 3 minutes. Somehow I had to make to make the song longer, and I had a plan. With the help of the software ”Movie studio platinum” (which is a video editing software with some audio editing tools), I added the track twice and merged the part between them. Let me explain more clearly: If the tracks simply follow one another like this;
There will be an awkward transition between when the first track ends and the other starts. Therefore, I cut the end part of the first sample of the track, and made it overlay with the second sample of the track. This way the soundtrack simple seems to keep going instead of coming to a stop.
I did this procedure to the boss music as well and saved them both as wav files for the programmers to use. This blogpost feels very repetitive and outdrawn, but unfortunately it was the only big thing I could show this week that was not a one-minute polish. The rest of the time has been spent on fixing our game design document. But that’s all for me! Tomorrow is the big day! See you in the next project~ |
About two weeks ago I found level music for our game. It consists of two songs called ”Never Lose Hope” and ”My Anger (Official Preview)”, which I found at Newgrounds.com at two different music channels. After having asked permission to use this music I simply converted these songs to Wav files that could be processed in the game.
