Assignment 2 Update

An update on Assignment 2! It took a while finding textures that i found satisfactory (still not sure if they are), but at the current state it’s pretty close to how I imagined it to be. Simple in design, as it’s crafted by the common folk and not for some wealthy noble. With runes to signify a personal value to whoever made it.

The runes are Anglo-Saxon, engraved into the iron in a rough manner. Again, I kept it rudimentary. As this wasn’t something made by an artisan craftsman with royal resources on hand. The fact that this is an Iron Axe, not Steel, means that it simply couldn’t be as intricately decorated as on the latter. Iron, for all its endurance,  is brittle, and so the one writing the runes had to keep it simple to avoid compromising the structure. It really didn’t give much room for fine-tuning or correction, so I stuck with a simply put primitive style. The runes are inconsistent in size and shape, hammering this point in.

The positioning of the runes might not be ideal. But again, that’s sort of the point. This was made by someone who needed a reliable tool for wood cutting and for repelling any bandits coming to harass the farm – not a professional blacksmith making an order for a king or wealthy housecarl.

This would conclude week 41, though delayed. I’ll try to be done with the reports -before- the week has ended in the future!
