Museum and Silver Dagger!

I chose a silver dagger that was located in a cabinet in the room with all the silver treasures that they had on display at the museum. I choose this object because I didn’t really find anything else that I felt like modeling. Even though I believe this is not a complex object to model as I would want to have it might do me good because I don’t have that much time to do it ( I have a lot of other studies I have to do)

The dagger I chose is believed to have been in the care of a high officer on a fleet that was sunk outside of Visby. It is most likely just something that was supposed to look good and not for any practical use.

Because of this I had an idea that would make the object more interesting and maybe just a tad more challenging to do. I thought that I might model that the dagger has gotten stuck in some underwater corrals and add that to the model. I will only do this if I feel that I have the time but I think that it could be cool to do. This is because that the ships were sunk and this dagger was found underwater I thought that if I would make this for the game Skyrim this could be a nice item in an underwater cave. This dagger in its stone holdings could summon the great captain or something when interacted with it. But as I stated before I don’t know if I would have time to do this because I already have to re do work because I have just had too much to do (this being the first assignment) and this is being work that I am familiar with all ready.

So building my model still with the intentions of doing this idea that I spoke about I would have to research if silver rusts in anyway (the object that they displayed in the museum had not been rusty but it didn’t state if this was the original object or a duplicate) when it has been underwater for a long time.  I will have to be careful with the contrast from the green and brown seaweed left overs on the blade and with the silver that I still want to shine. This is because I want it to be appeling and interest the player to go up and interact with. I believe that if this was just a rust broken blade no player would think of picking it up. This will mostly be achieved in the texturing of the model. I all read believe that I will have to make details in the handle of the dagger be more reflective in the specular map than the handle in its hole would be.

I am not to concerned with stereotypes with this object one thing that might be a stereotype is the fanciness of the blade its self because this blade is as fancy as it is that no one with a low standard during late 1500 would have a blade like this. I don’t believe this being a negative stereotype, this is because there were not many people that were poor walking around with a blade like this even more I want to point out with my model that the owner of this blade was someone with a lot of wealth and power.

A side note here is that even though it might look like i was planning on modeling the thing on the blade going down ( the pink lines that look like a half baguette) i later decided to not model this because it dose not change the silhouette of the model so i will fix it with the normal map instead.
