First step in digital drawing!

Last weeks assignment was about drawing 20 diffrent thumbnails to a allready decided concept. Either the concept “Bella and her umbrella” (the characters had to be a princess with an umbrella) or “Clash of heavens” (the characters had to be able to look like they can fight gods in another reality). I chose “Bella and her umbrella” and this is what I came up with.

I chose to have the mood and feel of Tim Burton’s artstyle with adding some swirls here and there and give my characters a sense of gloomyness. I also got inspired by the artstyles from the legend of Zelda franchise, Twlilight Princess and Skyward Sword in particular. I got the head crowns from twilight princess and the use of ethnic styles and robots from skyward sword.

I have to say I’m very pleased with the outcome since I have never worked with digital art at all before. It was fun to do and very easy compared to traditional art, which Im used to draw in. You can actually see the improvement if you look a the characters in the top right corner and compare them to all the characters on the very bottom. Im so inspired to do more works in digital drawing and I look forward to learning more.
