This week in 3D i got my new assignment and have been planning how to create the object and researched how it works. Im creating a viking longship from this concept art.

And im supposed to make it fit inside a game so i chose skyrim. Skyrim has a lot of brown and grey tones in their colors so when i texture it i will ahve to use that to make it fit inside the game. I also have had to look at how some things is created in skyrim so i can make the boats mesh fit inside the game also.
I did some rasearch of how the boats are created and found blueprints. One thing i learned is that the mast isnt attached to the boat itself, it’s only wedged in the middle so it dont fall over, but it car freely rotate, so the ropes attacked to it is important to make it stand still, i will have to apply this to the mesh when i create it so it look more realsitic and like it actually could work to sail with.
This show a little how the mast is attached.

I also created a moodboard for the assignment. I added a lot of things from skyrim to get the feeling of the game.
We were also recomended to draw on the concept art to try to imagine where you would put your edgeflows and get a feelign of how it would be built. You had to look at the siluett to see what is sticking out and is important to be modelled or if it’s only a texture detail. This was hard with the viking longship as it’s from an angle and you cant see the whole thing. But i tried anyways.

I also have blueprints to help me create the boat, i have placed some reference picture in Maya to help me start creating it.
I alo learned that the vikings dont sit on benches when they row, they use their travel chests to sit on, so that will be an important detail to have on it.
