Game Jam Time!

Lock your away daughters and hide your husbands! Time for some more Game Jam. As I’m writing this, I finished my part of the Jam and I’m now taking a nice brake in the cold MoCap Studio.

This Friday was the start of a 3 day Game Jam (Friday 5 p.m – Sunday 11 a.m) with an unknown theme and unlimited amount of team members for your team. I joined Henrik, from my previous Major Assignment, into an already formed team. My new team members are the two programmers Per and André. Featuring Jenny on art with me and Henrik.

The theme of this Game Jam was “Precious”, so we instantly decided on a game about Space Herpes. I mean… why not? Our team (yet unnamed) does not condone Space Herpes and we do not see it as a precious gift. But we see human life as one of the most precious things, and Space Herpes is a serious threat to it. That’s why the Father in our game needs to find a rare cure for his sick son, who suffers from Space Herpes.

The game (also yet unnamed) is a 2D adventure game with text based storytelling, inspired by Zelda. So the player needs to traverse a few mazes to reach his goals. The goal of the mazes are usually a character who can give the father further information on where to find the cure.

With the Game Jam came some Achievements for the teams. I would love to share them with you but the are on the university’s forums, which cannot be seen by mere mortals.

We focused on three achievements in particular:

  • A Bit of a Challenge – Build the game using only Pixelart.
  • Fine Art – All graphics must be made with watercolor- or crayons-look.
  • It’s Not Cartoons, It’s Anime – Have an anime-style art for the game.

Instead of only using one kind of art style. We used all three,

Now there’s less than 12 hours left of the Game Jam, and even though we probably wont win, it’s been crazy fun! Now it’s time to polish this game and hope for the best!

P.S Big love to Oscar, Nicolina, Alex and Ida who came and left some baked some treats for me while I sat here grinding!
