Enemy Animations. Week 3

Hello again! It is time to revive this blog again!

For the past few weeks I have been working with a lot of animation. I have been working mostly with our enemies. When working with the melee enemy animation I used the animation for our main character as a base for the animation, then changed it so it looked like a police officer by changing the should for a more square from and changing the colors to different blues

The picture to the left the our maincharacter and to the right is what the melee enemy looks like.

Then I just had to animate it using the base from the main character

When I worked with the ranged I took the melee enemy as a base but changed the arms and added a weapon. To get reference picture of how a shotgun looked from above I decided to make a fast and easy sketch of it in 3D studio max, this might not have been the best way to do it but because I am rather used to working with 3d studio max so it didn’t take longer than 10-20 minutes to do it

Then I just put the picture in Photoshop and drew over it, then added the arms in each frame to make it look good, when I was done I felt that the character didn’t feel alive enough so I ended up adding so the face turned to the sides. I liked the outcome but I still think there is more I can do to make the character feel more alive when it is walking. But this is something I will go back and polish when and if we have time over to fix things when all the art is done.

I have also made the attack animation for the melee and ranged enemy. I started with the melee enemy here as well. To make it easy, fast and still good looking I used the arms from the walking animation and changed them a bit using free transform and adding some lines and color in photshop. It was hard to make this animation feel alive because we decided that the legs should be in one place. So I tried moving them a bit and making it look like his front knee went down with the weight from him. After working with it for a while and not liking  at all how it looked I  scrap the idea for now and decided that I could go back later and fix it if we have enough time.

This is the attack animation with the front leg moving down with the weight of the body and the attack,

I used the same technic as I did with the melee enemy on the ranged enemy. I mostly used free transform to move around the arms and the gun, then where I had to make new lines and add new color I did. I also had change the shoulders so it turn close to a 90 degree at the end of the animation. This is the animation I was most happy with because it looked rather smooth and alive.

Next week I will be finishing the enemy animation with adding their death animation. I will also be working with the object we call rubbish bin and the trap rubbish.
