The Task Board

This week, I have made a task board at the office. I have read that a task board can improve many aspects of a project and that seems to be true. I pitched the idea of having a task board to my team during the last sprint review and they liked the idea. So we have tried it this week to see if we like it.

Our task board works like this:

On a whiteboard in our office there are a lot of post-it-notes. They describe all the tasks planned for the current sprint and who is responsible for that task to be finished. There are three categories: “To Do”, “Doing” and “Done”. Every task starts in the “To Do” category. When a team member starts to work on a task, he or she moves the task to the “Doing” category and when the task is done, it moves to the “Done” category.

This makes it possible for everyone on the team to always see how we are making progress during the sprint. The team members can see that they are part of a whole and what they do matters in the end. It also seems to make everyone work harder, since it gives them a positive feedback to move their task to the “Done” category, which makes them want to accomplish more tasks so that they can move more tasks on the task board.

We will definitely continue to use the task board during the rest of the project.
