Assorted thoughts on pink

I love girly things.

I love it when someone takes a hypermasculine genre and throws a can of pink paint on it and covers it in sparkles and ribbons and dresses and frills.

Oddly enough I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone do that to gritty war FPS games?

I think the only explicitly girly action movie I’ve seen was The Powerpuff Girls movie.

Lately comic and cartoon producers have started to realize that, “woah, maybe girls like these things too” so they’ve been trying to bring out more female characters. That is, bringing back old female characters, removing the pink from their color scheme, and making them cool stoic masculine warriors.

I mean, I love cool ladies who kick lots of bum too, but what’s the problem with pink?

Trying to eliminate the stereotype that pink is the default girl’s color is cool, if I was president I’d make all babies dress in purple because it’s a much cooler color than pink or blue anyway.

But suddenly everyone seems to be avoiding the color pink like it’s the plague. “If we have our female character wear pink, she’s gonna seem stereotypical and girly.

Usually the problem actually boils down to the writers not wanting to make their female characters too feminine, not that they’re trying to break away from some stereotype.

Being girly is hella awesome and I think everyone should be allowed to be girly and wear as much pink as they want if they want to.

But if they don’t want to then that’s cool too.

Actually, I don’t like this idea of pink and ribbons and dresses being exclusively girly, why can’t we just call it cute?

Sometimes guys want to be cute too and I fully support that.

Bottom line is I think everyone should accept that being cute and pink can be just as awesome as being a dark and gritty action hero and you can be just as cool being cute as you can be being buff and aggressive.

And cuteness is often associated with optimism and positivity, which is much more interesting than grimdark gritty realism anyway.
