Board Game progress
|
For a week back or so we’ve been tasked to create a board game prototype in groups. This week we are supposed to have a playable prototype and we are supposed to play other groups prototypes while they play ours. Initially we set out to create something intense, competetive and strategic, but during our development I found that we couldn’t really get something like that to work. After trial and error (and without major playtesting) it is hard to determine whether or not we meet those criteria but I guess we’ll find out during playtesting later this week. We also wanted to focus our core system down to a movement system and we decided to build upon the colored cards we did earlier. We wanted our movement system to be based less on randomness and more on strategic use of the cards. We cut down the amount of colors of each card to two (from three). These would the represent what colored paths your character could move by. Coupled with each card is a number written on it which corresponds with the amount of steps you take. You can mix the colored paths of your card so if you for example get a red/blue 3 card then you can move red–red–blue, or blue–red–blue, or red–red–red etc. The board in which player could move on is a grid of squares, each square corresponding to a color available on card. Players start on one side and race towards the other. That is about as far as we got on that part. This board game assignment is still very WiP and no details has really been set in stone, so we have to work hard to get a product ready by the end of the week. We’re also keeping a separate, more intricate blog on our board game at http://gamedesigngroup7.wordpress.com/. |
