Week 42
|
Goal of the weekGet a playable paper prototype and see if the core system works as the group wanted.
How was it achieved? This week, the group started by prototyping and test the board game, since the design was establish the week before.
The group decided to use paper and card sleeves in order to create the first prototype, since the paper could easily be replaced and re-designed if it did not work. As soon the deck of cards was ready the group sat down and started to test. Read this if you want more detailed info of how it went.
The group then bought in two toy guns in order to finalize the prototype.
What was achieved? Both goals of the week were achieved, thanks to the play testing and redesign of the core system, since it did not work at first. A paper prototype were created 14/10-13, meaning that the group could start play testing even before the “dead line”.
What was my role in it?My roles in this week’s work were the main tester, (AKA, the guy who takes notes during play testing and asks for feedback afterwards) and help with the design of the game (AKA, they guy who suggest using colors instead of arrows).
What could have gone better? All and all, this week have had a lot of success, thanks to the play testing and rapid prototyping of the game.
One thing that would have made the play testing better would have been the inclusion of a game manual. This time a developer had to explain the rules, which means that the group still don´t know what happens when the tester plays without a developer’s interference.
Goals for next weekCreate a game manual for future testing.
