The week of Gunilla
|
Hello, this week I worked on the boss for the game. The bosses name is Gunilla. More specifically I worked on the ghostly “fire” part of the boss, my team-mate Alex is working on the mask/face of it. Here is a picture from it, I don’t have the final mask implemented yet and it the fire part will probably be transparent later. But here is a frame from the idle animation: The mask is just a rough sketch right now in this picture. The boss will work like it can shoot all the elements that we have in the game, fire, water and wood. So I it will have to change color, We will do that by having a elemental change animation and change it with hue and saturation options. And then use gradient to make a smooth change into the other elements colors. The boss needs idle/move, elemental change, attack and death animation. So it isn’t that many animations, but there is many frames for each animation, I think idle/move, elemental change is 7 frames, attack is 5 frames and death will be 25 frames. So it will be a lot to animate. But its going forward and I think we will be done with it soon. Working like this, two persons working on the same thing just different parts is a little weird, but we do it because he is better with animating the mask, and I am better with the ghost fire part as I have done it before with the lost souls. To make this possible we decided the canvas size we where working on and then made a circle so both could start working at the same time. So he would place the mask at one point of the circle and I knew kinda were it would be so I could start on the fire. So that would have probably worked. But as I had to finish making the projectiles and change some of them, change the size, remake some animations, and do more editing with it. I could only start on the animation after he had already made the rough sketches of the animation for the masks, so I could take those and start animating the ghost fire on that, wich was even better. Later when I am done with the fire part of the animations I will put in the final mask animations into mine, tweak it and then start on changing the colors so it can be used on all the elements it can use. And the boss will need a fourth element, or rather a mix of all of them, so it will just be another color then, and at that point the boss will be able to shoot all elemental projectiles without changing the element it is possessing first. She will gain this power after losing about half her health. So there will be two stages to her fighting. So soon we will have all the boss animations done. And then it is just up to the programmers to implement her into the game. I guess this is it for this time, and I think it is the last blog post in this course. So I will probably not blog about this game again. Next time it is gonna be about a new game im working on with some other people for the next course, well 3 other people and 2 of the ones I am currently working with right now. Goodbye and thanks for reading. Here is a gif of the idle animation: Oh right forgot to say how I make this, I work the same way I have worked with the other animations I have talked about in this blog. I use Photoshop and SAI. Bye. |
