Commenting! #5

Here’s the comment I posted to Leo’s post about playtesting and how it shaped one of core mechanics: Impressive, Léo. You managed to include many different aspects of the playtesting in a single post very coherently. Starting from the Adam’s theory – a background, that is; through gathering data, ending up with the final results and conclusion. Reading a post structured like that was very easy and enjoyable. You also avoided a problem that I noticed many people make – jumping straight into the topic without giving context. Briefly mentioning basics of your game and the concept didn’t leave any room for any misunderstandings or assumptions. In addition, you added multiple images, sounds and even a video, all of which made the post transparent. I don’t need to say that your post was very valuable. One thing that I found out particularly intresting was the interviews. I was holding several interviews myself to get data for one of PM assignments – scientific report. They turned out to be really fun and if I was to gather some feedback again, I’d certainly use them. But, for some reason they didn’t come to my mind before playtesting sessions. My group used survey instead, however it is rather limited tool, and you can go much deeper while actually talking to people, asking following questions, observing their body language and so on. It is much easier to understand what is really implied by their words. I’ll keep that in mind for the next time Overall, it is one of the best posts I’ve read so far, nicely done! Krzesimir |
