So, another week and another handful of random props to be made. I am once again faced with the fact that I have not really made anything all that exciting this week, even less exciting than last week I would say. For Last week I at least had a sofa this week it was really small stuff, but the biggest piece I think was the chair so I am going with that. So, how to make a chair. First look at chairs, 40’s-50’s office chairs to be exact. Well, the older ones looks like kitchen chairs but with wheels or a swivel (or in some cases: both!) while the later look pretty much like you would imagine a cheap and basic office chair. There were also the fine leather chairs that almost seemed to scream power and/or mafia boss. Given those choices I decided that the wooden ones would keep the offices look cheap enough to be as mall as they are, especially since the desks look a bit prettier that one might expect a normal worker to have I decided to lean a bit in the other way with the chairs. Then we go on to the actual making of the chair. I started out with a square, beveled off the edges, then I made a few different basic shapes for the back of the chair. Then I added the shadow color, then the outline and last the highlights. I do not really know why I put in the highlights last and I probably shouldn’t since I had to re-do some of the outlines since I for some reason merged the layers before I was finished. I mostly used sharp brushes and the pen tool. (thanks Rebecka for those) But also a little bit of soft brush with the shading tough I undid a bit of it later, because it did not fit to well with the rest of the objects. When I was finished with the base version of the chair I made a few small alterations for different versions, like changing the back and adding arm rests. I will present the different versions to the other artists and they will choose what version or versions to use. They can also quickly be changed in to a more modern office chair by rounding out the seat and adding black cushioning. I am quite happy though, the prop-making is going faster than we expected then again it might be needed since there is some work to do trying to make all Items seem uniform, especially my early pieces. But there is a first time for everything and I am getting better at pixel-pushing even though I do feel quite slow. Well, I guess that’s that from me this week, Have a good one! //Max Norldund |
