Weapon lvl 3 done

I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones. – Albert Einstein

Another week is done, and another weapon has come to life.

There is something about weapons, something that makes them interesting and fun. Something that have always had a little impact on me. When I was little I used to draw, play and even make my own weapons. This was because we usually played with our real-like weapons back in my friends big garden. We came up will all different kinds of plays. Sometimes we would run across the whole village if we wanted to. Playing that we were shooting each other with our fake guns. Dying and re-spawning over and over again. When I became a little older, me and my friends moved inside and played video games containing lots of weapons instead. We stopped our imagination and embraced a world of rules and pre-made stuff. But with the added taste of realism to it.

Weapons and games goes hand in hand for most of the time. Guns, swords, axes, you name it, many games has at least one of it. And so does ours.

As i have blogged about for a while ago (http://lindermeister.wordpress.com/2014/02/01/week-2-of-game-development/) our game will have a level up system where the player can choose if they wan’t to upgrade for better damage. I got the task of doing the weapon design that we can put in our game and have in our customization menu. I started with a pistol and made it in three different levels. We decided to go with the first one: Pistol level 1
We chose this because it was made well and had that basic feeling of it. As our player will upgrade to level two, we went with a needlegun that Viktor Myhrberg had designed and I completed: weapon_2
We chose it because we felt it was a good upgrade to go from a gun to a rifle.

And so to our last weapon upgrade. A weapon that our avatar, Ariana is wearing like a glove and that she uses in her daily life when sewing her suits. Going from this I started to sketch on some design and came up with two ideas. One little more generic form of straight edges. The other and the one that we went with had a more smooth and round feeling to it. I got inspiration from an old sewing machine that i got from google. Unfortunately have I deleted these sketches so I can’t show you.
From there I Started to clean-up my drawing an make the lines solid by adding and erasing with a small hard brush. This gave me a good foundation for me so that I could go to the next step easily and more effectively.
I gave my gun a base grayish color and then used dodge and burn tool in photoshop to get lighter and darker color to it. Giving the gun shades.
From the I added in the color by giving base color and then tweaking mostly with the layer style and opacity of the different layers. Thus building up my weapon to a finished state: Weapon_3
I’m not that satisfied with the weapon but it’s what we have and what we want. The things that I’m not satisfied with is the style of it, that flat color style. But as we have it throughout our game there isn’t any changes i can do.
And so my childhood has come back. The childhood where I drew different weapons and playing around with my imagination. My drawing skills are quite different, but my fascination over weapons are still there.

Thank you for your time,
