I am back again for another post. So, this week I have not really made anything big, just a few props to fill out the game world. Out of these things I guess that the most interesting one might be the couch. Since the game is set in the fifties or early sixties I went on the internet to find pictures of couches ca 1950. I must say that I was quite surprised to find that most sofas or couches around that time seem to have been red, blue or green. So after conferring with one of my colleges I started making a red couch. I quickly decided that the couch was not to be a very nice couch, it was not the kind of couch a C.E.O. would put in his/her office to impress visitors. No, this was to be a lowly but faithful servant made for less influential people toiling in the shadow. But a fully covered red sofa felt a little out of place in an office building so I chose to make the arm rests out of wood to make it feel more like office furniture and less like something you might find in your grandmothers living room. The making of the couch is not a very thrilling tale, but I am to tell it anyway. It started as a red square. I then added some darker “brush” strokes and dots to give a little bit of shape to the back and seat cushions. About this time I realized that the scale was a bit off compared to the other objects in the game so I resized it based on the size of the player character. Then I added in the arm rests and following that put in some outlines with the pencil tool. After that the only thing remaining was one more outline to put it more in line with the rest of the game world and then it is off to quality assurance, where it no doubt will have some minor tweaking to make it just right for the context. And this process probably took a bit more time than it had any business doing, but we now have a red couch for our game, Tadaa! As for fifties furniture in general I have started thinking that I might watch Mad Men since they seem to pop up every now and then as I scour the internet for pictures to use as reference, I believe they have it on Netflix so if I have some time I will try to go though some episodes at least. There, I think that’s it for today may you all have a nice weekend and all that, Cheerio! |
