Pre-Alpha done!

Fourth week in to our game development. A week full of expectations and hard work.

Today we have had an meeting with our teacher Markus. A meeting that was about how we was in line with our development for the alpha version of our game, this is called Pre-Alpha. The meeting went well and our teacher didn’t had much “complains” about our game. It was more or less only the controls that was criticized as they were not really convincing and a bit complicated. The way we have done the controls is that you move your player around a centered position in a circular way. The basics are good but we have added so that your avatar is facing where the mouse pointer is. This makes the controls a bit fuzzy because when you are moving around you’ll occasionally will feel that the controls is inverted. Tomorrow the programmers will discuss this and hopefully come to a solution on this.

But what have I done myself this week? As the producer of the team my task is to have everything organized so have been scheduling and planning a lot. This is really comforting as it helps us all in our development. It feels good to having everything organized and our scrum master is helping out a lot as he has the knowledge on what to prioritize to the game. The only issue we have now in terms of the planning is that everyone hasn’t gotten around that this is a company that we are running and that we have to have set times as it will be easier to communicate for us all. Hopefully my team will come along or we are gonna have to make some changes on that area.

So my graphical contributions this week has been small but fairly needed as I have get down on the little stuff like projectiles and vegetation stuff. I was especially happy with our bullet #1 projectile and a tree that can be used for map design.

The workflow for the bullet #1 was that I started to do some research of projectiles in 2D shooters and one that was really inspiring was a student project named Sweden in conflict (  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NxxV1cIHO_s#t=0 ) . When I had my design I started up photoshop and made a 64×64 document. Started out on a new lay and painted with a soft brush a oblong projectile and then a new layer with a soft white circle in the projectiles front. Then I took a small eraser brush and started to erase lines from both the yellow and the white layer giving them a blending feel over . The result is this: BulletProjectile v2 view

Tomorrow I’m gonna work with our presentation for our alpha that is due next Friday. I will also try to draw some weapon design lvl 3.

Thank you for showed interest!
