Blog:2 Art Assets and Concepts

Art Assets and Concepts

Making a game is a team effort, so you have to make sure everyone is on the same page. As the led artist I wanted to make sure to create a game with the same felling and art style. So the first week I set out to create the art assets we were gonna use, a color palette and the brushes.

We also made sure to get a lot of inspirational pictures we could keep in mind to capture a common feeling in the game. It’s hard being two artist who have completely different art styles and then implement them into the same game, and still be able to make it all work together.

Daily stand ups

To be one the same pages is very important. The stand up meetings was very useful to keep track on where we were heading. If all of us had just headed out and done their own things we would have ended up with a game that would be with completely split up piece. We still needed the freedom to be creative and do our stuff. So we created concepts and let everyone job on their things the rest of the week, but every member update everyone everyday on their progress to keep each other on track of the group progress.

Character Concept

We had limited time to create a Concept we could present. So we had to first get an idea of the whole picture of the game and then firstly work on the most important parts. The most important thing to complet was the playable character and the avatars weapons. After that it was also important to create the first enemy the avatar could play against. The first enemy was the sky slug. But firstly we had to make a Concept for every character that everyone in the group could agree on before starting working on a finalized design.

Once we agreed on a Concept for a character the group decided who of the artists was going to work with which character and the deadline.
