Week #3 – Scrumy Scrum Scrum

Scrum.
Scrum.
Scruuuuuhhhhmmmmmm.

Scrum has been an interesting innovation to the group currently known as Archon. It was a hard process to get started, but now with some time and effort I feel as though we are living by the rules & recommendations of the system. As for affecting our development I can’t say for certain whether it has been positive or negative affect on the development, but I can say that it has helped our process quite a bit!

I feel like the best parts of Scrum is that our team meets up much more regularly because of it due to the sprint meetings and reviews which in some regards makes us more responsible for our work and actions within the team. I know that for myself at least it has motivated me to work much harder in completing my tasks and making it rewarding to turn a no into a yes in my sprint reviews. I know that it has helped our team stayed unified in our end goal and is propelling us into actually creating a game as a team, but to any good thing there are downsides…

While the Scrum Gods giveth, they also taketh as I have started to notice the lack of the same enthusiasm and pride I have started to take in my work from within my own teammates. You start to notice the lack of man hours and tasks that some members take, something I would never have noticed unless I had constant access to the information via the google drive. It is kind of interesting how much I have come to learn about the rest of my team due to the constant tracking of time and jobs accomplished.

Overall

While I do see how Scrum has unified our team better, while motivating individuals to take more upon themselves and try to grow from this experience. I think that Scrum has been a double bladed fork for us… as in I think the team has benefited greatly from having the schedule that we feel the need to live by, but at the same time it seems that Scrum hasn’t affected us all at an individual level yet. Maybe its not the systems fault, but possibly just a lack in motivation to make it work. But as much as I would like to go into detail about it I will stay on subject!

Overall Again
