Working with Scrum
|
This week I will talk about how scrum affected our development. As you know scrum is a framework for team collaboration on complex software projects. It involves the scrum master and the team to work together, and provide effective results in a short period of time. The below graphic briefly describes how the scrum works.
In light of the info above, we have been having sprint planning on Monday, stand up meetings from Tuesday to Thursday and sprint review on Friday. Sprint planning/review days are obligatory to join in person, and we try to do the same for the stand up meetings. But when none of us has class that day, we use discord to communicate instead. Scrum is good for planning what will be done within a sprint and lets people work more systematically. Daily stand up meetings help to overcome the dangers of procrastination and provide more effective communication. It helps people be aware of what others are doing, and work accordingly. Sprint planning and reviews give a clear picture to where we are at achieving our goal, and discuss the matters that are slowing us down, or just to exchange ideas on how things should be done. Scrum also lets us to change our plans in short term accordingly in case something goes wrong, or doesn’t work as we want it to be. Scrum is especially good for people like me that loves to work on spontaneous stuff in times I feel like, rather than having a set schedule. This is not a bad way either, it hasn’t failed me so far. I could always finish the work before the deadline. But it is also a fact that working spontaneously might be not so nice for the people I work with. It’s a team project and we need to know and arrange ourselves according to other people’s work schedule. I know also many times that scrum meetings saved me from procrastination. Some days I didn’t want to do anything at all, but forced myself to work on a task just because I didn’t want to go to a stand up meeting and say “I have done nothing” Scrum is a good framework that encourages people to focus, be open and respectful to each other and provides a flexible way of working. It certainly provides a good way towards achieving our goal. |
