2. A totally new sound experience

I had more focus on the sounds for the game this week since I am the one responsible for it. I had no experience on that whatsoever so the main focus have been to learn the basics of Audacity and LMMS. The goal was to get some kind of background sound and sounds for the main character of our game. Some sounds will be recorded be me and others will be someone elses creation. The already recorded sound I found on a very helpful website that provide free and non-copyright sounds for people like me who needs it for their hobby or school work.

Since we artist had done the work that had to be done for the Alpha test i figured that I should move on and learn the things I had to learn about usable sound programs. Pretty soon we have to imply some kind of sound to the game and when it happens I want to be ready for it.

To learn the basics, and some other things that I had to manage to do, I watched a bunch of youtube videos that actually helped me solve almost all of the problems I had during my work in LMMS and Auducity. Many of the problems I had were not big at all. For example I struggled to find a way to put in your own sample in LMMS but solved it rather quick by watching a nice guys on youtube doing it.

The theme for our game is kinda dark and gloomy and the character is walking on a path in the forest at night. Therefore i needed forest sounds, some creepy background music and a sound that informed the player that the character are walking on dead leaves or similar.

After i found a good sounding sound I first edited it by using Audacity to make it sound even better and more fitting to the game. After that I worked with the sample in LMMS since you can work in different layers in that program, that way I was able to put a nightly forest sound together with some thunder, a low creepy bass and howling coyotes.

Even though I still have a lot to learn about the programs I think a learn new stuff every time I use them by only playing around in it and using them. Hopefully the game will end up in a good way!
