Animations…Animations
|
Working with animations was a pretty big stepping stone for me as a person who never had any prior experience. The first time I learned about doing animations in Leo’s class, I was pretty much awed thinking about the capacity of creativity that can be flourished through Photoshop. It wasn’t easy, took me quite some time to grasp the basics. But I did, through many trials and errors and with some help from classmates. The concept game that we are working on right now requires a lot of animated works and as the only person working behind them, I am learning new things with each one I make.
Working with one of the enemies (Bat) animations was pretty fun. The previous knowledge about using “puppet transform” for doing animations that I gained while working in Global game jam 2018 seems to have paid off. I tried putting pins on the head and first quarter of the wings so that they do not budge from the place and I could move around the wings from the middle to the tip. There was a class of Johan where he talked about maintaining arcs while animating which also came in handy. With my limited knowledge, I created a few layers where the wings are bending downwards to a certain point and then I copied them and put them in reverse order to create a full loop. After finishing the whole animation, I was pretty much satisfied and was feeling more confident.
The reason I choose doing animations this way is that from my perspective, it seemed easier than creating different layers each time. Doing that might have more fluid and could produce better animation but as I was not changing anything of the enemy other than the wings’ positions, this method seemed to be more convenient. There is another player animation I made for the same game where I took a different approach by creating different layers by drawing from the scratch as the player animation was supposed to act differently. It took a lot more time than using the puppet transform method and it does not exactly look the same in each different layers, but I guess that was inevitable. I will talk about that in detail in my next post. Until then, hope you enjoyed reading this and are having a good day. |
