Lycanthrope: Spider Animation (WIP)
|
Hello! My name is Mattias Borgqvist and I am currently working on a shoot em up game based on the concept document “A game of beelonging” by group Ouroboros. This week I have been continuing working on our spider enemy but this time I have been focusing on the the animation part instead of just trying to get the final looks of the spider. Now I have to make the spider move instead of just being stationary which can look quite boring. The animation that I am currently working on will be the animation that is being played when the spider moves up and down its web, a kind of climbing animation. I started by doing some sketches of the key-frames which is the most extreme cases of frames and they are used to get a good understanding of what the animation will look like but without have to do all the in-between frames first. when I finally found some movement that I wanted to work with I moved over to the next step of sketching the in- between frames and after that was done it was time for the clean up.
(One of the “clean” frames) Above you see one of my finished frames before it being painted, which I have yet to do. Some of the things I find hard with animation is that it is really time consuming and early mistakes can make you lose a lot of work hours put down on the asset, secondly one of the harder challenges (at -least for me) is to get a consistent size of everything and to make transactions looks smooth. A tip I can give to everyone else animating is to really just put the time down and try not to be a slob because it will pay off in the end, I was quite a slob when making my animation and even though I took time to prepare and even watched a couple hours of tutorials before starting I feel that the end result is lacking in quality. There is many ways to animate and I have yet to find the best way for myself, if feel that animating is very clunky and unforgiving when it comes to making big changes in the later part of the animation process. Animation tips are welcome since I am pretty new to this phenomena . Enough said, back to the drawing board / Mattias
