This clone of “The Legend of Zelda” for the N.E.S. was created using the “Tiberius” engine, an engine based on the “SDL” library. This engine was coded in class under the guidance of Jerry Jonsson. The game itself was created in two weeks during the Christmas holidays as a graded assignment for the course.

All the sprites for the game were found here.

Due to time limitations, the whole game wasn’t recreated. Enemy AI is also extremely poor, enemies will simply act randomly, even bumping into walls in the case of the shooting enemy.

What is there, though, is quite extensive for such limited means and such a limited development time. New swords and inventory items can easily be added to the game, as well as new “rooms” of the world.

This assignment taught me to structure code in a proper fashion before actually coding, as well as to take it easy and not crunch. Indeed, for the first few days of the vacations, I worked irrational amounts of time at once, which resulted in bad code, exhaustion and lack of motivation. I was more productive per hour when working less hours at a time.
