Designing mechanics
|
The past week I’ve been concentrating on discussing and reworking our games mechanics as well as building a level for our game.
This is what I’ve been creating, while it might look daunting at first it has a meaning. The green parts are filler woods that block settler movement. Each letter on the map is color coded and represents on of our resources. The green F is for the food resource, brown W’s are for the wood resource, the grey S is for stone and orange M’s are for metal. These have been placed with the three blacks rings that circle the map in mind. The numbers in the bottom left describe how many resources there are within each ring. A is the innermost and C is the outermost. Lastly, the red dots represent enemy spawn triggers and the dotted lines are patrol paths that indicate enemy patrol paths. This has since been implemented into Unity and iterated on. While this worked in a way, it is both too big and too open to work for GGC, to combat this issue I’ve begun work on another level design that is more streamlined and better suited for our GGC game. |
