First post… technically!

Alright!

So this post will be more of an exstension of the last one, and a better explanation of what I’m actually doing in this project. I won’t add any pictures this time of what I’ve made, that will be saved for when I’ll speak about my actual models.

So, last year we had the Theme Park course. The purpose there was to create a game suitable for an arcade hall, and we had about 10 weeks to actually make that game. The criterias were mainly that the game needed to be accessible to the majority of all people, and could not use standard input devices like Xbox controllers or regular keyboard and mouse. However, these devices could be used if applied in a way that they are normally not used. For example, if a regular computer mouse is controlled with some sort of grapple device of some sort to control it, then that is ok.

This year however, we have the Big Game Project. As it sounds it is a project in which we need to create a big game 😀

This essentially needs to be a bigger game than last years, and we have less time to make it. We have 8 weeks this time to create a game, and currently we are at the end of the third week. This will also be showcased during GGC. The alpha is coming up, and soon after that the beta.

One big difference now from last year, at least concerning me, is that I actually have an official role: Environment Artist. Last year I was more of a normal grunt doing whatever was needed, so it’s very refreshing in a way to actually have an official title, even though it may not be more than just a name.

But as it stands, all the objects in the environent, as well as textures, are created by me. Concerning the design, our lead designer has a final say concerning the more game play oriented objects. However, the initial structure and design are up to me. Basically, everything in the game, minus the player characters, are made by me.

In the next post I’ll be going into a bit more detail about what type of game we’re making, as well as showing off what I created during the first week.

Hopefully this post makes some sense. It’s friday and I’m tired.

Cya!
