BGP – High Poly Vehicle
|
Hello out there!! First off, our game have changed name from Gravity Grind to TwinShift (due to many reasons). Second off, I want to just tell you my roles for this BGP course and mainly for the GGC, which are Lead Sound Designer, 3D and 2D Graphical Artist, and PR-responsible, so that you now know what you can expect me to blog about from this project. So, onwards to what I have done for the project this week. This is my high-poly of our first vehicle in the game. Its shape is heavily influenced by how the modern formula 1 car looks, only with enormous jet engines attached to it. When I did model this I first had to figure out how a person living in the game would do to build such an aggressive and technical racing machine. What would their key-objects be, and how would they put it all together? I came up with four basic key-parts. A vehicle for racing needs a source of power, to which I set some jet-engines. It goes well with the “futuristic” and “high-speed” aesthetics of the game and gives a good base for feedback later on (such as flames and cool jet-sound). The vehicle also needs someone who drives it, so a key-object on the car would be either a seat of some sort or a cockpit. And I went for the cockpit, as it both reduces the time it takes to model and it is the more logical option for a vehicle driving at those speeds. Another key-object should be some sort of frame or chassis to which the engines and the cockpit can be attached to. So basically I just modelled something that attached those parts, and with support for later on panels and wings. The last key-part would be those panels that gives the vehicle its aerodynamic attribute, and also would protect it from contact with scrap, other racers and the rails on the track. Thinking in the way race teams would think; it would be much cheaper to just replace a metal plate instead of a whole jet-engine.
For next week I will work more on the appearance of the vehicle so that it fits to our aesthetic goals and the scrapyard/post-apocalyptic theme. I will also create the low-poly and do the baking phase of the high to low poly. But more about it then! till next time! -Lui |
