BGP Art – Creating the Level
|
Last week was fairly uneventful since I spent most of the time just finishing up most of the assets without any problems or hiccups. This week though was a lot more eventful since I started to “dress the set” or “pimp the level”! So I have been taking or white boxed level, designed by Adam Wrange and started to move away from prototype stage by placing our assets in the level, playing with the lighting and trying to create a “believable world” which is part of my thesis. Since we recieved some feedack regarding the level, I couldn’t work on the level as a whole and had to beging with our two intro levels; The Glade and The Village. The Glade is the pillar/island where the player will spawn and get a first glimpse of the game, which means that it needs to look good and represent the rest of the game world well. The players will spawn meditating on a small rock in a glade, surrounded by big trees and rocks creating a canopy. This will hopefuly create a calm environment for the player to start in. The first WIP image in the grid above is what the player will be seeing wen spawning. The player needs to walk forward to be introduced the fallen feathers, which grants the player character new abilites. Lighting is a great way to draw the players attention, hence I placed a spotlight shining down on it. We will also create a particle system for it to enhance it’s visibility. We also present the first challenge; the Dreaded Log of Doom which the player needs to jump over to introduce the jumping mechanic. The last image is of the end of the Glade pillar which will be a big reveal of the rest of the world. While walking through the Glade the player won’t be seeing too much of the surrounding world but when the playesr reaches the end, they will be standing on a cliffside which will show the coming pillars in the world. The reveal will show an open world, so to increase the feeling of greatness I chose to have a lot of big trees to create a sort of enclosed area. The Glade is on it’s way of being finished while the Village is the area I recently started on. This pillar will feature a village to introduce some story elements and not too much of gameplay mechanics. Down below are some WIP images: |
