GODFIRE FORGE Theme Park 2015
Hello dwellers! It has been a while since I last wrote a blogpost but that does not mean I have not been working on the project. On the contrary! I have been too busy to even think of writing a blog entry these past weeks. But in this entry I am going to tell you about and show you what I have been busy with. But first, let me explain what kind of game GodFire Forge is.
About GodFire Forge GodFire Forge is a game that takes place within the setting of Norse mythology. The mighty gods of Valhalla are fighting the never ending hordes of giants on the battlefields. To their aid they have you, the player, as a smith to forge and re-forge their legendary weapons. As you smith their weaponry, you will have an overview of how the battle is waging. If you are slow in your smithing, the giants will over-run the Asagods and they will loose the battle. If you are quick, the gods will gain favor in the battle and push the giants back to victory and glory.
Gameplay – How To Play When you start the game you can instantly see the battle between gods and giants raging in the background. You’re given your first weapon to craft, here’s how you do it: On the screen, all the available buttons are represented by the colors purple, red, green, blue and yellow. They also have different symbols and shapes.
The three middle buttons will be used for choosing what weapon is to be created. Axe for red, sword for green and shield for blue. You choose one of these weapons to craft by hitting the corresponding buttons. After that, a set amount of symbols need to be hit in order to complete the weapon selected. There are three weapons to be crafted. These weapons are also used randomly by the giants, and work as a rock-paper-scissor type counter system (shield –> sword –> axe –> shield). By countering the giants weapons, you push your advantage further. By crafting these weapons and countering the giants, you give the gods the advantage until they win.
The goal of the game is to supply the gods with weaponry and help them win the war against the titans. In order to do this you need to forge their weapons in order to keep them pressing the advantage. When the giants are pushed far enough back, the game will end in victory, when the giants push the gods back, the game results in game over.
Early Mockup of GodFire Forge
Input The game will be built using Unity, and the input will be several big boxes that can take a beating for our input to constructed in. The boxes will be placed a measure from each-other in order to promote running between them to hit them. In order to reduce noise and promote longevity of these boxes, they are to be covered in foam and cloth, reducing noise and lessening the impacts of the mallet. The screen will be projected using a projector. A rubber mallet will serve as our hammer. We plan on ripping a dance-mat open to use as input for when a box is struck in effort to smith weaponry.
Lead Code – Erik Lindgren
One of my early tasks was to design the main menu and also the sub menus Credits, Highscore and Quit. Since GodFire Forge is based on the Norse mythology I decided to paint the menus on runestones. To navigate through the menu the player needs to punch the hammer on the buttons. Each button leads to the different sub menus.
CREDITS
HIGHSCORE
Since the sunset is behind the hill I decided to put two torches on the right and left side of the Highscore runestone in order to light it up. They seemed very lifeless so I added a very simple flame animation for the alpha version.
QUIT
Weapons!
The weapons that can be crafted in the game are axes, shields and swords. Each category has four different upgrades. The player will unlock the different stages by crafting more weapons from the same category.
And that will be all for this time! See you in the next blogpost which will be after the Alpha presentation.
Ciao! 🙂
