Here it is, the final post for this course. This will mainly be about how GGC went, and thoughts about the project in retrospect.
So GGC also knows as Gotland Game Conferance might be one of the best things i’ve been through, and is definitely the best part of the education.
It’s a conferance where all the students show off their projects, 1st year students, 2nd year students and even some 3rd year students. The quality may vary, but everyone has tried their best to bring something to the table. This year, there were some amazing games. A game that actually felt like driving a mech, i saw my first serious game in practice, and much more.
So how did it go you might ask.
Well this year i have mixed feelings about my own project. The first thing i have to say about it was that it wasn’t finished in time. There were parts that had to be cut, graphics and mechanics that never made it in to the game and so on. However we had one clear goal with the project. We wanted to recreate and capture the aesthetics of board games and table top games like Avalon, Resistance, Cutthroat caverns. This we actually succeeded with. There were many reoccurring criticisms, good and bad, but one of them was that it really felt like a board game. A few even drew the connection to the exact games that inspired us.
Many of the players came back to play more, which is one of the most satisfying feelings I have felt. Bringing joy to players and experience their appriciation for what you’ve created.
And here are some pictures from GGC!
