BGP – 4

Hello again and again… x) I don’t have that much to explain about different things that I created since the main task that I had was to create the props so to be honest, I am a little bit unsure should I choose one prop and explain about that or choose a category (like I did in my first post with the bar props)… So confusing!

Oh well… Maybe I can make a list that is good to have in mind when creating a street that shows signs of life. I realised a good way to get good reference is to open Google Maps and roam around the streets of Stockholm and Helsinki to see how they really looked and what needed to be done for our game to make it feel the same. After this, I wrote everything down:
-bench

-bike stand

-store sign

-bar sign

-bikes

-drain pipes

We were not quite sure should we have had cars in the scene. Modeling cars can take a while and we did have a limited amount of time. Also, if we modeled cars we should have modeled a bunch of different ones. We should have modeled traffic lights and such. We came to the conclusion that no cars were needed!

Then I created a list that I could model since a lot of the buildings are broken and the players could see inside. It looked very odd in the beginning when they were completely empty.

-sofa

-TV

-TV desk

-bookshelf

-clock

-lamp

-paintings

I don’t have much to talk about these because they were fairly simple to do. The one that I actually did the last was perhaps the easiest one but the thought of doing it was somewhat not pleasant. We needed paintings to fill up the walls but I didn’t want just to create the frames, I wanted them to look like paintings. I searched through my camera history and tried to find some pictures that I could use. After I had found them, I used filters such as crystallize and blur in Photoshop so they looked more “painting-like” and then I simply added dirt and textures in Substance Painter!

Photos that I chose for the paintings. The ones on the left are from Visby and the one on the right is from Rome

Lastly, we thought we needed some props that show that there is something going on, something has happened and people have come to the rescue. Surprise surprise, another list was made:

-traffic cone

-fence

-first aid kit

-site lamp

-walkie talkie

-notice board

For the walkie talkie and the site lamp, I used a bunch of reference photos and tried to simplify them a little bit so I wouldn’t waste too much time on them…
