New project on the way!
|
Introduction This post is the first of a weekly series that I’ll be updating during the big game project course leading up to the Gotland Game Conference in late May. I’ll be writing about features that I’ve worked on during the weeks. This post will mostly describe the game concept and my role in the team, as this week mostly has been about pre-production. The Concept As of now we don’t have a name for the game, so the working title is Project Neiva. Neiva is the main character of the game. The player will be controlling Neiva in a side scrolling platformer with 3D graphics and classic 2D gameplay. The game aesthetics strives towards fluent gameplay with timed movement, jumping, and outmaneuvering enemies.

What sets this game apart from other platformers is the teleporting mechanic. Neiva has the ability to manipulate her soul and teleport to it’s current position.
This image shows the two steps of flinging her soul and then teleporting to it’s position. This mechanic will evolve during the gameplay and gain a lot of different effects on the environment and how Neiva navigates the levels. My role I’m the sound designer and programmer for the game and I will be producing and implementation all the audio for the game. This means that I will be writing a lot about different techniques I used, such as features in the Unity audio system and how to use ELIAS to make adaptive musical game score. For my music production I’ll use a simple setup with Fl Studio 11 and a MIDI keyboard. For sound effects I usually do most of the mixing in Audacity. Next week I’ll describe more in detail about the feel of the game and how the soundscape will be designed to fit into that, as that is still being ironed out.
