2D2 Character design

Last week we got an assignment to create three different character designs for one single character. This was a fun and different assignment because up to this point when I have designed a character I have thought about what I wanted and then done that. But this assignment forced me to think a little further and create a few different alternatives in terms of style, probably what it will be like when I get out of school and start working.

When i started working on this assignment I first created a character body that I later clothed with different kinds of armour. The design of the character itself was inspired by a character that i made for another assignment.

When I had the body of my character worked out I started thinking about how I could differentiate this design from itself. My first variation was the picture shown below.

The reason I did this design was because I was sketching around and then I started to like the helmet design that this character has. And then I tried to design an armoured suit that would fit the design of the helmet.

The second variation looks like this:

This was not as different from the first variation as I would have liked but because of the short timeframe that I had when I did this. This short timeframe was not because we did not have enough time to do this but because of the different time the assignment was supposed to be handed in.

In the last variation I had run out of ideas and because of that I tried to give it more hard edges than the first two. I still tried to keep the design of the helmet. But I am not very pleased with the result that this gave me but I was out of time and therefore had to submit it anyway.

This was the variations that I managed to create in this assignment and apart from the last variation I am satisfied with what I managed to create.
