Third 3D assignment

We have now started our third assignment for our 3D course. We started by bringing concept art with turnarounds to class. There we made a backstory for it, believing we would make our own concepts. But no, our teacher then told us to trade with a colleague. This will have us not changing the concept when it’s there’s something hard we want to skip or make easier. Also we will both be a client and work for a client. So I check up on the one doing my concept, and the one person’s concept I’m doing is going to check up on my work.

I brought this concept which I found on deviant art.
troll_turnaround_by_bmaras-d4irk8tThe backstory and world description I wrote for it is going to be at the end of the post for anyone interested.

This is the concept I will work with and create.

Shaman_Topollogy

It’s an old tribesman. I’m supposed to create it without the mask and have the face shown. I won’t have to make the eyes as they aren’t shown and instead model big eyebrows that could move and cover the area for where the eyes would be.

The hand I will model as the thumb and the index finger on their own and then the last three fingers is going to be one part and then painted to look like three fingers.

Here’s the backstory and world for the troll.

Character Background

Troll – Male
Lifespan 160, adult at 30
Name: Gor´dak
Age: 40
Physical: Fat, healthy
Movement: on Two legs, kind of sluggish movement
Appearance: Rough, ragged
Intelligence: Medium, he is not clever but he can talk well and understand what is happening around him. He has too big and clumsy hands to build anything but he’s good at finding a usage for the things he own.
Religion: Fishyism, believes in the fish god Fishy. He “prays” or more hopes his hunting of fish is fishful.
History: Lived alone since he was able to walk on his own two legs. Parents got killed so has no one he knows who is a troll.
Psychology: Easily scared, if he gets too scared he goes into a rage and kill what scared him. Otherwise calm. He don’t create detailed things, only strap on things he find to detail himself or his cave which he loves. He wants to detail his home with trophies or things he finds because he really likes how it looks and he thinks it make his home a better and happier place.

If anything would threaten his house or steal from it he would rage and get rid of it.

Likes: Fish, trophies, other trolls even though he never met anyone but his parents before, shiny things.

Hunts fish and other animals with his club if he wants to eat them.

His hobbies is to hunt, explore and find trophies. The trophies are usually from his hunting and exploring expeditions.

Lives in a cave in a forest with a small lake nearby. He has a fireplace surrounded by rocks in his cave and know how to cook somewhat, mostly grilling fish and making fish soup. He sits on logs from trees he has torn down. His cave contain trophies and other items he have found and are hanged on the walls to make it look nicer. If he can he attach it to himself too, like ear rings or a wristband if he find something that he could use.

He likes to explore but the only place he really loves is his cave and lake.
He might look like a brute but he loves his things and his cave and is really happy when he is there and look at his things and the memories they awaken.

He has started a club where only he is in. It’s called Fish club and he started it because he loves fish. It’s both about hunting fish and looking at how pretty and shiny they are. The first rule about Fish club is that you don’t talk about fish club.

Once he found a glass bowl, so he use it to put fish in sometimes when he want to look at them more closely. It’s hard though for him to catch fish without killing them. He tries to catch them with his hands when he don’t want to kill them, but it’s hard, but it doesn’t stop him from trying. The bowl is big enough to put on his head, so sometimes he goes into the deeper parts of the lake and use the bowl to breath in and see under the water.

He can swim, not well though because he taught himself to be able to swim with the fishes.

He makes due with what he have, he is not that smart so he don’t create things and have too big and clumsy hands. But he is good with finding usage for the things he have.

There is an otter that sometimes come up to him after he caught a fish, Gor´dak always share his food with him then. The otter is somewhat a pet that goes and comes as he pleases. They sometime cuddle when they are going to sleep. The otter sometimes rest on the shoulders of Gor´dak.

He only attack others if he feel him or his home is threatened. He is mostly calm and peaceful except for when he hunts or attack.

Sub items: Wristband, Loincloth, Ear rings, Club, Fish, fish skeleton.

I could see him in an open world, sandbox PC game maybe like Skyrim but in a more cartoony stile, where everything have a background and if you just sit and watch you can see them in their everyday and notice details about their behaviors that you wouldn’t see if you just ran past or attacked them as fast as you saw them. He could be a special NPC that also have a side quest if you don’t go and just kill him. And if you just sit and watch him he would go hunting or exploring. So if you got their when he was out exploring the forest you will only find his empty glade. Or you might find him watching fish in the lake or swimming.

The world is set in a time of the middle ages and is a fantasy world. Humans exist and other races like elves and dwarfs. They use coins as a currency but Gor´dak isn’t much for that, he owns a coin because it’s shiny but he don’t want more as he already owns one. He trades in things he is interested about, he can trade with food or shiny things mostly. The elves also live in the forest but not where Gor´dak is and they leave him alone for the most of the time. They think of him like a lower creature but like his presence because he is a part of the nature that isn’t destroying it. The humans sometimes find his home but leave him alone, but if a bandit or thief find his home they might try to steal from him or attack him. But he is too strong for them, and once even the elves helped him when humans attacked. The dwarf live in the mountains and have never bothered the troll. He once met one that was very nice to him and traded him a shiny stone for one of his trinkets.

The elves live in the forests or close to them. The like the nature and care for it a lot. The once living in the forest make their homes and building in the tree tops. The elves are very agile and able to climb and jump between trees very easily. The ones that live outside the forests often live close to one and is often living in tent like houses that they can move when they need, kinda like nomads.

The humans build fortresses and settlements and don’t care much about the nature. They are an empire that thrives on trading and sometimes get in wars with other human empires. They are very industrial and come up with new technologies a lot. They often work with the dwarfs to make them because they  are the superior craftsmen. But they are also very secretive so when they come up with something they don’t want their enemies or concurrent to know about they make it themselves as they know the art of crafting.

The dwarfs live in the mountains and make big caves to live in, they also have cities on the surface but they are always made out of stone, because they won’t burn in case of a fire. They are very good craftsmen and put pride in making their caves and whatever they make out of stone as good as they can and put runes or decorations into the stone.  They also mine a lot when they make their tunnels so they find jewels and valuable minerals. They are split into clans with a king that rule over the clans. The king is chosen between all the dwarfs when the one before have died. They do trading between the clans and the humans. They sometimes have civil war between the clans but never on a big scale. They are very skilled fighters so some go out in the world to explore, adventure or work as mercenary’s, but they don’t do this for long periods of times because they don’t want to be away from home for too long.

The world is also filled with animals that roam around, the humans hunt them for food, the elves use some for the materials or food they produce, like eggs or wool. The elves eat meat but not much they mostly eat what they grow themselves. The dwarfs and humans also use the animals for what they produce, but they also raise them for the food they get from slaughtering them.

The larger races, humans, elves, dwarfs use coins for their currency, but can also trade with the things they own or have made.
