The effects of playtesting – 5SD064 HANNA AHO LIND

Hello once again dear classmates. Another week has passed and we all look forward to leaving this course behind. But if there is something especially fun to rememeber from this course it is the two playtesting sessions we have had. During the playtests we got to play the others games, but also get valuable feedback from both teachers and other students. After playing our game they were asked to fill out a survey, with prepared questions which we wanted answers of. But we also took notes of how the players reacted to different things. We called theme: Spying Notes!
We took turns spying and writing down what we saw, so the handwritings may vary alot! Our game and the quality of it has changed alot for the better, much because of the player feedback. Because we were able to determine what worked, what gave the right feeling, and also what needed to be redone. After the first playtesting a lot had to be done, but since we could see the game from a new angle we quickly fixed it and made it more into what we had wanted from the beginning. So when the second playtest came we decided to make another survey with similar questions, just to see if the testers felt that it had improved or not. And happily enough it had improved! A lot of the mechanics felt better, the camera was improved and more art assets had been implemented to give the player a nice aesthetic feeling. Overall the game had improved in everything that had went wrong in the first playtest, and this was achieved in only a couple of weeks. My group and I ofcourse became quite pleased with the results and we felt almost recharged with positive energy! The things we had questioned were solved and the testers enjoyed their gameplay! I think gametesting sessions are crucial for a game´s improvement. Asking the target audience is the best way to find out wether your game is going in the right direction or not. And the feedback you get may be some of the most valuable things to happen during your production time! To conclude, the playtesting sessions helped my group and our game alot.
