Blog post 5 – Playtesting
|
During this course we have had two playtesting workshops were other teams could test each other’s games and give feedback on them. And in our group Archon we have been working on showing our game Aetherial for the playtesting. The playtesting was arranged a few days before the Alfa presentation and the same for the Beata presentation. The playtesting purpose were to let the groups see each other’s games and to get valuable information on how to improve your game. It is also a good practice for the team to have a playtest because it works somewhat as a beta or alfa release where other people plays the game and gives the developers feedback and cretic. Before the playtesting started we prepared the game for testing. Some things that we wanted to test was the players functions and if the music suited the play style. Then we build the game, so I could run outside of unity and we made sure that the build worked. Also, we prepared a google doc where we wrote some questions that the tester could fil in after they hade tested the game. Some of the questions were how the player felt whit the movement of the player and another one was on how they felt whit the game in general. During testing we had our game designer looking on the tester during testing to see their reactions and what they were doing in the game and that gave us some information as well. When the testing was finished we summarized the feedback and data we got. The playtesting was a good thing to have in the course because it helped our group to get some valuable information on the game. We could summaries the feedback and draw conclusion on how to proceed whit the games development. And for the most part we only needed to tweak the values of the player and other objects to make it better suitable to the feedback that we got. It was also good to play other teams games because it gave you nice ideas on what you could do in your own game. |
