Comment on blog post: “Hi Emma! It was really intressesting to read about your work process and your reflections regarding the whale animations. I think you made it very clear to the reader how and why you made certain design decisions and how you improved the animations. It would be great if you explained a little bit about the principles of animation for the readers who knows little/nothing about animation, just to make sure they understand what you mean when you’re referring to arcs etc. It’s nice that you have included gifs of the whales movement and also show your step by step. The first animations of the whale looks a bit jumpy and it gives an impression of it being a happy whale, which I guess weren’t the intension. In the next gif, the whale looks heavier, it’s slower and I think it looks good! Even though you said the idle animation was hard to make it has a really nice movement! I guess adding more frames would make it look slower. It’s too bad that your team might not use your animations since you put down a lot of work on making them, and I can totally relate to that. It’s really annoying when you spend a lot of effort and time on an asset that will not be implemented in the game. But as you said, no matter what happens, it’s a good learning experience. However, I hope you will use the whale and the animations in your game because they look great! Good luck with your game! /Petra ”
