4th post – pressure before the Beta presentation
|
Beta presentation is coming up next week. By then we have to be finished with core features, movement, attacks, UI, and challenges. It is a tough week and we have felt quite a lot of pressure recently. Things does not always go as we want them to go. The harsh winter weather caused problems, because many people got sick, and so did some members in our team. We had some delays and it seems that we are running out of time. The presentation is on our nose and we have 3 days to finish everything. These past 2 weeks we had some troubles with coding, because the only one programmer in the team got sick and work was delayed. There were still quite many features to do, so we needed to leave some behind, like cut scenes, and just concentrate on required ones. However, it seems that even for required features we are running late, since we still do not have a good boat movement. Our boat at the moment is too fast and it feels more like a car than a boat. This was a major problem since the Alpha presentation, and we have been trying to fix it. If this does not go well, then there is only one solution, which is to ask help from teachers or other students. We can always make mistakes and we can always ask for a help, because we are here to learn. Due to all these sicknesses, it has been hard to manage a group work. We have missed some daily stand up meetings, and did it online instead. However, online is not the best way of communication, because we cannot really see what everybody has done. For example, only 3 people have access to Unity, game developing program, and only they can see what is implemented and how the game looks like. So, if we are having meeting online, then I cannot see how the game looks and how it works. Therefore, last week’s sprint review was not looking so good, since work got delay and many features were still in the progress.
Finally, everybody recovered and healthy again, so we are going to have a long meeting in person, and prepare for the Beta presentation. Hopefully all things will go well and we will be able to finish them on time. |
