Scrum for making Boaty

Scrum is an agile framework for teams to break down their work into tasks that is supposed to be completed within a time period called sprints.  Seeing the progress and making daily meetings called daily scrums.

In ouroboros we have one-week sprint planning, we have made a backlog to keep track on what are supposed to do for Alpha, Beta and Gold. We do sprint planning on Mondays and review on Fridays where we figure out how many hours we estimate the tasks to be and afterwards the actual work hours.

The meetings have helped with planning out what is important now, organizing with each other so that we can figure out what we need from each other and help each other out when we can see that some has less hours and they can take the task instead.

It has helped as being the lead artist to find out what is the most important for the different sprints and to let the programmers know if we have time for the specific task or have to wait another week. It has helped me keep track of my working hours, that is good when I need to work in a company to tell them how long it will take for me to make for example an animation or anything else.

Because of the many meetings, we have also had a lot of unnecessary discussions that have taken the hours for actual work, which for me has made it more stressful to fill in the 20 hours of work. But we have also been getting better at figuring out what is necessary to talk about in the particular sprint.

Conclusion

I think it would have been better for every group if they could have planned on their own how long the sprint meetings should be. For us 2 weeks would have been less stressful when you have your minors as well, doing assignments there it is hard to figure out how to structure the work hours and getting a better overview. All in all Scrum has helped a lot with figuring out what we need to do and aim for every single week.
