3. The Effect of Scrum
|
In this weeks blog post, I’ll be talking about Scrum and how it has worked in my group. First of all, what is Scrum? A quick summary: Scrum is the practice that’s supposed to help group projects to workout as smooth as possible. It’s main reason is to help teams to work together and how to get a centralized and shared vision of a project. It helps the group with planning for each week (sprint). It also introduces the different roles each group member will play as, everything from the Lead Designer (Product Owner) to the Lead Artist. Scrum is the work process that ”challenges” the members to be reflective and through the retrospective point of view, be able to see what has been working well that week and what has not. So, has Scrum worked for my group? From my point of view, I would say the scrum template has been working well for my group. It has helped the group setting up a ”schedule” that makes us realize the time pressure we have and at what dates certain things has to be done. We managed to create a Product Backlog which has all the necessary items and features and it has been updated almost every week and is somewhat easy to navigate. We’ve also filled in what roles each team member has within the group. When it comes to planning, we meet up every week on Monday afternoon and discuss how we should plan out that weeks sprint. The only ”downside” with the sprint planning for my group at the moment, is mostly it being kind of short. We managed to make everything necessary quite early on in the project, so the amount of objects to work on has reduced each Sprint. So the remaining time (if any) each team member has during each week usually goes towards some minor polishing. But if it would show that an object/item would take more time then planned, we try to divide the work within the team or just push that till the next weeks sprint so no one have to stress to finish before the weeks end. Overall, I’d say that Scrum has had a positive effect on my group. |
