Dear lord, it is time for the final post! So – the last character in our game is the Raum, and just as with previous characters the Raum used to be a living person who was turned into a demon. This particular demon is inspired by the goatman, so it crouches and uses a ramming attack. This is actually the character I am the least satisfied with, because of several reasons. It is supposed to have a hunchback, but after having a conversation with the lead artist we decided to not model it with said hunchback, because it would take time and he was not sure that he could make a satisfying work doing a hunchback, but I remembered that you could rig with a hunchback. But – having tried it endlessly – it did not work. So instead I rigged and skinned the character standing upright, and thought I could fake the hunchback in Motionbuilder instead. And could you guess, it looked like crap! But during this crapfest, the programmer who did all the AI’s needed the animations to complete his work, so basically we made a wrong decision about methods and ran out of time, so I did the best that I could but am still really unhappy with the end result. So if there is anyting to learn from this experince – do your research properly, and when using an iterative method such as Scrum (as we used for Rune Mages) make sure there is enough time to test and iterate! And once again, no graphic material to show you… I really need to work on my blogging skillz. |
