Neon Skies
|
Week 6 Hello! My name is Erik Levin and I am in the second year of the Game Design, Graphics, program at Uppsala University, Campus Gotland. Im working on a game called Neon Skies. This week ive sat with the skinnig and rigging of the 3d perspective character. The procedure is similar to the one with the arms only to a much higher degree. Weight painting is when you colour how much or how little, movements in one joint will influence the mesh. So as you can se in the picture, the areas that are redor as in this case white, are influenced alot by the movements in a joint. Where as areas that are blue, are inlfuenced very little or not at all.
This was a time consuming process, more then the arms. The challenge was to get the areas of the mesh that was behind the armor plates. However with some tricks with the camera i managed to get them.
After i felt done with the skinning a started to finalize the control rig. Like i mentioned in a previous entry. Your control rig controls the movements of the joints.
However it did take a shorter time then i thought and i managed to complete it in one day. I started to prepare the character for animations and i also gave the mesh to Marcus who where responsible for the uv-mapping and texturing of the character.
I also got the task of making some icons that we planned to use in our introduction video in the beginning of the game. This introduction video would play as the player fell down to the island in an dropshuttle. This video would explain for the player what they where supposed to do in when the game started.
Above you can se a few of them. I made them grey becuase its easy to change the color of them. They would also act as a indicator on the HUD when you mined, Got into combat, when you where in stealth and so on.
Thats all for me this time. Next time i will talk about the animations and som textures for the environment.
Thanks /Erik Levin |
