Title screen and fireflies

Today I’ve been making a lot of particle effects. I downloaded the ”inferno” package from unity asset store and used those particle effects and changed them a bit so we could use them in our game. With that I learned more about particle effects and more specifically about spritesheets and particles, I didn’t know before how to use spritesheets in this way so it was a lot of useful informations and I like that I’ve learned something new!

With the new knowledge I made some fireflies for our well that we have in the game, I think they’re quite good, it’s not perfect but it’s better than the placeholders we had before. I don’t know if you can see it in my gif but the fireflies are pulsating with their glow, if I have time in the future I will fix it but it will do for now.

We also started to think a bit about what our main meny would look like, or maybe it’s more of a title screen, or is it a difference? We won’t have any options of any kind for GGC because we want people to just jump in and play. I started drawing on a concept so we have some kind of knowledge of what it will look like and what we need to do to make it in 3D. The title screen will be in game and when you hug, start, the game will turn into the good dream to show that hugging changes the world and at the same time Olivia will wake up and the game starts. I think the picture turned out great and it was nice to draw in photoshop again because it was some time since I did it.

When you start the game Olivia will be in the good dream, you will have Leon, your plushie, and you will start to wander a bit. Leon will be taken away from Olivia some moments later and the dream will turn into the nightmare, you need to find Leon so you can turn the dream good again. This start is to make the player understand more and more that when you have Leon, and hug him, the nightmare turns into the good dream and is something you want to have.
