BGP – Day 23

Alpha

We have reached alpha stage and (should) have a playable game to show our teachers. Luckily we have a playable version of our game, though it is lacking a lot of art, lighting and feedback that is supposed to lead the player through the game. Now a lot of art have been created it just haven’t been put into every part of the game. Before we had our alpha, we had the morning to prepare our game.

I therefor helped one of our artist to import a character into Motionbuilder so it then could be put into the game. The small character is a little rat, this rat is going to run around in some parts of the game and the player will be able to interact with them. Sadly there isn’t any animations done for the rat so we had to leave that out. Also I looked into getting  a good camera position for the main character in Motionbuilder, but I didn’t know how to place it to match the position in Unreal. I decided to ask my 3D teacher for help and it turns out you have to add another bone to the characters head so that you then can connect the camera to that bone. This means I have to re-import the characters skeleton and start over with all of my animations. But that will be something that I will do instead tomorrow.

I also spent the evening adding more materials, so now we have five different materials to work with for the environment. Here is a picture of them:

I have learned that having a very discrete Normal Map for the material gives it a more stylized look, so this is something I want to try for the other materials as well.

That is all for today!
