BIG GAME PROJECT 2017
BGPMy name is Erik Levin and I am in the second year of the Game Design, Graphics, program at Uppsala University, Campus Gotland. Last week, we started our final course this semester, namely Big Game Project (BGP). It is a group project course in which we apply all that we have learned during the last two years. The course span a ten week long development process where we are tested to our full extent in a sharp environment. At the end of the development process, the resulting project is presented on the Gotland Game Conference. Neon SkiesMy group are working on our game Neon Skies. It is a battle royal, multiplayer game. Its a 3d game and the player will play in first person view. Week 1My main responsibility is the characters and the animations for these characters. We just finished our course 3d3 and the main goal of that course was to create movements for our characters that are going to be in our game for BGP. I have spent the last week improving on those animations and in some cases done completely new ones. The animations mostly consists of attack animations like idle, different sword attacks, different axe attacks, bow attacks and so on. There is also movement animations like walking, running, jumping, sneaking. There is also animation for when the character takes damage and when the character dies. I feel like i have improved considerably if i say so myself. The biggest reason is that i have started to use reference pictures rather than just going with my gut. However there are still some things that I have to improve when it comes to the movement animations, running especially. I can not get the feeling of weight to the character. There are some other issues with the movements but most of them has to do with the mesh and the skinning of the character. There are some issues with the armor and the arms and i have tried to put the components of the character in stances where this issues does not jump out as much.
However, we are considering to change the look of our character because of dissonance between how he looks and the environment. This decision will mean a lot of extra work but it will also give us an opportunity to create a much better character, both when it comes to the mesh, skinning and textures that will solve a lot of the problems that is present at this time. That is all for me for this time. //ERIK LEVIN |
