Sounds, Week 4

So this week has been long, A long week means we have had a lot of things to do, which is good.

We started the week of by having a playtesting with the class again. This time it was really good compared to last time. We got a lot of good feedback and we had fixed a lot from the last time we got feedback. However we had not added sound!

What?

So this week my assignment, except from calling to meetings and do the SCRUM stuff i actually got to find some background music for the gameplay.

My first task would be to decide what feeling the game should have. So we in the group made a unanimous decision on a darker horror feeling when we played the game. I started off by searching the web for free sound sites that we could use as much as possible. I knew Joel my designer had found a lot of great sound so i hoped shorter music tracks would be available too.

How?

Turned out i found two diffrent websites with a lot of free samples but not with the thing i was looking for so i continued looking. After a while i found this website: https://www.dl-sounds.com/ were they had a bit longer sounds and music. I explored the website for a bit trying to find some music for the background and sounds for getting hit and taking damage. the later i did not find, at least not what i liked.

The music or background sound i choose what these:

1: Horror Field

2: Bell of Warning

3: Hurry Up

All there can be found here : https://www.dl-sounds.com/royalty-free/category/horror/

Why?

Why did i get this task and why did i choose those ”songs”.

Well since we made almost the entire Beta there is only tweaking and fixing the last bits. This did not require too much effort in the SCRUM planning or documentation since there was no more ground breaking ideas or new things to work on. We decided in the very beginning that we should have sound and that sound should be added among the last part so that it would fit in with the Theme of the game and the art that we had.

I do believe that the sound and music we have really do fit in as much as prefab sounds could. Of Course creating your own like some other teams have done is amazing but we really had no idea how this would be done. Starting with how to implement it would be just fine.
