Drawing level assets
|
Hello! The Beta is approaching rapidly, and our game is staring to take shape. However, there is still a lot of work to be done. We are currently in a phase of our game production were the graphical aspects must catch up to the rest of the project. The visuals are not yet where we would like them to be, and a lot of our graphics is currently just placeholders. That is why I choose to take on some of the graphics work this week as well, so that my team’s graphic artists could focus on finishing the characters for our game. I may be the producer, but as of right now, my help is mostly needed in the graphical aspects. More specifically I have been working on creating level assets for our game that would make the level more interesting and exciting to explore. Since our game is based on switching realms in order to fight both humans and demons, we wanted the realm shifting to be somehow represented in the level design. After discussing it with the team, I decided to start creating a wagon that would be altered by switching realms in the game. I started by drawing a wagon filled with hay, since it would fit the countryside scenery that our game was set in. After I was done with the wagon, I started to draw body parts that would make it look like there was dead people in the hay. I also took a leg and a rifle from an enemy sprite that we had previously made for the game. The reason I did this was to create a spooky feeling of being in the underworld, and I also felt like it really fit the theme of the game. I also added a purple glow and some smoke to the wagon to make it look like the hay was on fire. Below you can see a comparison of how the wagon will look in the different realms, the right being in the spirit realm. I used photoshop to create this asset, and due to my lack of a drawing tablet, draw the whole thing with a mouse. That is of course less than optimal, but It got the job done. //Lucas Ingvarsson
